The Large Bookcase

large_bcase (Medium)

Despite the time it takes to scan book covers, and the stress it is probably putting on my elderly Canon scanner, I am still enjoying displaying my library. I trust all who visit Eye Candy for Bibliophiles find it a salutary experience as well.

As you see, the large bookcase lives up to its designation. It was custom built twenty or so years ago when we first moved into this dwelling. Measuring 9 ft by 9ft, the shelves are made of pine, now mellowed over the years to a deep honey colour. Despite being custom built it can be taken apart, as the three vertical sections are separable, and all the shelves can be adjusted and removed.

The contents represent the bulk of my fiction collection which covers popular, literary and classical fiction of all sorts, acquired over forty something years. The shelving of the books actually has a system, in that I generally shelve books under imprint, e.g. most of the penguins are shelved together, though over the years it has all gotten a bit out of hand as space became an issue.

However, you will be surprised by what I have in this bookcase – quite a few rare old editions and then some.

The Mid Sized Bookshelf

Apologies for the longer than anticipated hiatus in posts, but updating duties on various web sites have occupied my evenings for the past week.

This bookcase occupies a wall in what we term the computer room, called thus as it is where the computer resides. Its dimensions are 6ft x 6ft and I had it custom made quite a few years ago to take the overflow of books from the big bookcase.

As you can see this bookcase is stuffed full to bursting with books doubled up on most of the shelves.

It contains my collection of art books, paperback (and hard cover) science fiction, fantasy and children’s books. It also has a shelf or two of New Age type literature on Astrology, Tarot, Numerology and such like.

More tomorrow hopefully...

Welcome to Eye Candy for Bibliophiles

The Small Bookshelf

I’ve started this new blog to show off my own personal library in response to a request from
Jeff VanderMeer who expressed interest in seeing my books. So here it begins.

I have three bookshelves, so I will be starting with the smallest of them and will gradually get around to the other two.

The shelves on the small bookcase contain mostly hard covers, quite a few of them being somewhat rare first and/or special editions.

Watch this space as I display, for your bibliophilic delight, cover images and commentary on the contents of my library.

The header picture is a detail from a painting by Winslow Homer appropriately entitled The New Novel.
